Dry Stone Walling Competition
Festiposium! Dry Stone Canada’s (often) annual gathering is taking place on the last weekend in September. This weekend will include a rebuilding of the remaining section of the wall at the McMullens’ house, as well as a carving workshop, taught by Danny Barber. New this year, there will be a walling competition, hosted by Tagget and Graham at the Lodge on Friday, Sept 26th. Wallers will be judged as they tear down and rebuild a section of wall within 7 hours alongside 4 or 5 competitors.
The rebuild at McMullens’ is Free to DSCan members but registration is required. There is a fee for the carving workshop, which is open to everyone. Talks and presentations will be taking place throughout the weekend. International guests include dry stone proponents from Amorgos, Greece and Neil Rippingdale from the Kentucky Dry Stone Conservancy. Spectators are invited to come out, see what it is all about, or catch up with participants you may have met at previous dry stone events on the Island. Go to drystonecanada.com for more details.
