Back Kitchen Code of Conduct

At The Back Kitchen, we are proud to be a welcoming, community-led space grounded in the values of compassion, respect, excellence, integrity, relevance, co-operation, and celebration. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations we have for ourselves — as staff, volunteers, board members — and for everyone who visits or engages with our space.

Our Commitment

We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all. We value the diversity of our community and aim to ensure every person who walks through our doors feels appreciated and welcome.

Expected Conduct

We ask that all individuals interacting with The Back Kitchen - whether as part of our team or as visitors - commit to:

  • Treating everyone with dignity, kindness, and respect
  • Listening with openness and communicating thoughtfully
  • Being considerate of others' needs, space, and comfort
  • Respecting The Back Kitchen's property, volunteers, and shared facilities
  • Cooperating with reasonable requests from staff and volunteers

Unacceptable Conduct

The following behaviours are not permitted at The Back Kitchen, in person or online:

  • Harassment, discrimination, or intimidation in any form
  • Use of hateful, threatening, or abusive language
  • Physical aggression or verbal altercations
  • Disruptive or disrespectful behaviour that negatively impacts others
  • Refusal to follow directions from staff or volunteers
  • Vandalism, theft, or misuse of property

Accountability

The Back Kitchen reserves the right to refuse service, ask individuals to leave, or take further action if this Code of Conduct is violated. We are committed to enforcing these standards with fairness and consistency.
